Hong Li

Pianist | Piano Educator

Hong Li is a pianist and piano educator based in Houston, Texas. She serves as TMTA-SA Theory Test Chair and as an HMTA Piano Competition Judge, and is a member of MTNA. She is the founder of Hong Li Piano Studio, where she provides instruction in piano and music theory and prepares students for competitions and performances.

Hong Li began studying piano at the age of four and later pursued advanced musical studies in Germany. She earned her Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Music and Dance Cologne (Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln). During her time at the university, she studied under Prof. Gesa Lücker and Prof. Höller York. She also participated in an international piano master class in Belgium with Prof. Christian Beldi, further deepening her understanding of piano performance and musical expression through intensive training and diverse musical exchange.

After completing her master’s degree, Hong Li taught piano at a music school in Oldenburg, Germany, while remaining active in solo and chamber music performances. Over the years, her work as a pianist and educator has spanned Germany, the United States, and China, enriching her artistic and teaching practice across different musical cultures and educational environments.

In her teaching, Hong Li emphasizes the integrated development of piano technique and musicianship. Her instruction encompasses technical skills, rhythmic control, tone production, pedaling, music theory, musical interpretation, and artistic expression, helping students build a strong and well-rounded musical foundation. She tailors her teaching to each student’s individual learning style and musical development, guiding them to strengthen their technical foundation while gradually developing independent musical understanding and expression. Her students have received multiple first prizes and other outstanding results in piano competitions in the United States.

As part of her ongoing artistic practice, Hong Li is dedicated to performing, recording, and sharing complete piano works. Her repertoire spans classical music, anime piano, popular music, holiday selections, and film music. Through exploring and interpreting works in a variety of styles, she continues to expand her repertoire and artistic expression, documenting different stages of her musical growth and artistic journey through complete performances.
